    The day had begun early, the sun rising amidst early morning clouds before pushing through and lighting the path towards the start of the trial. Alpha had woken even before the sun, nerves and anxiety making her stomach feel queasy and the air seem hard to breathe. Perhaps, she thought, that might be because she was coming off jet lag, or maybe that it was her first time participating in an event that required her vigilance and the stallions best behavior, consistently, for days. She had thought he had been improving, that he was ready for the commitment of such a trial but had she been wrong...? Her mind had kept her up, and when she had gone to saddle the big man up, her mind continued to race. Even how gentle he was, plucking treats from her palm with soft lips made her cringe a bit. Slowly, very slowly, she was able to relax as the sun rose and she groomed and saddled Gunter.
    Now, with a path of dew leading her way out towards the trail she was to take with the stallion, she took a deep breath of the new air. She had to be confident, for the team. People were just beginning to wake and stir, horses shifting as they sensed the coming work, the excitement of the day. Alpha nodded and smiled to the ones she passed, Gunter letting out deep snorts of reassuring calmness. Swinging up, Alpha was ready. One more stabilizing breath as she collected the reins.
    Supermodel hips.
    Heels down.
    Eyes up.
    Elastic.
    Go.
